1、 Clarify core requirements and functional positioning
Firstly, ask yourself: What is the main purpose of building a sunroom for? This directly determines all subsequent choices.
Regular/Leisure Type: Mainly used for growing flowers and grass, storing items, and occasional leisure. The requirements for thermal insulation are not high, and more attention is paid to ventilation and lighting.
Leisure living room type: As an extension of the living room, it is used for drinking tea, reading books, receiving guests, and family activities. The requirements for insulation, sealing, and comfort are high, and it is necessary to be able to keep warm in winter and cool in summer.
Functional type (study, gym, dining room, etc.): requires long-term stay inside, with the highest requirements for temperature, sound insulation, anti glare, and ventilation, almost equivalent to a normal room.
2、 Choose the type of sunroom (based on its structure and roof shape)
Structurally, it can be divided into:
Ordinary aluminum alloy sunroom: high cost-effectiveness, but average insulation performance, suitable for environments with low insulation requirements.
Broken bridge aluminum alloy sunroom: currently the mainstream and preferred choice. Adding insulation strips in the middle of aluminum profiles effectively blocks heat conduction, greatly improves insulation performance, and is energy-saving and environmentally friendly.Steel structure sunroom: The main structure adopts square steel or H-shaped steel, with the highest strength, suitable for large-span and complex shaped sunrooms. But rust prevention treatment (hot-dip galvanizing) must be done well, and the maintenance cost in the later stage is relatively high.
From the top shape:
Slant top/herringbone top: the most recommended household style. Smooth drainage, less prone to dust and snow accumulation, stable structure, high safety, and appearance closer to traditional architecture, making it easy to integrate with the original architectural style.
Flat top: Modern simplicity, but drainage is a problem as it can easily accumulate water and dust, requiring regular cleaning. High requirements for materials and construction techniques, otherwise it is prone to water leakage.
Curved dome: with a beautiful and smooth shape, it is relatively expensive and suitable for use as a sunroom corridor.
Multi angle roof (diamond roof, etc.): The design is complex and unique, which can fully utilize the corner space, but the cost is the highest.
3、 Selection of core materials (key factors determining performance and price)
Framework material:
Preferred Broken Bridge Aluminum Alloy: Pay attention to the wall thickness of the profile (recommended not less than 1.8mm-2.0mm), the material of the insulation strip (nylon PA66 is preferred, be cautious of using PVC as a substitute), the profile brand and surface treatment process (fluorocarbon spraying>powder spraying>wood grain transfer printing>electrophoresis).
Top material:
4、 Functional configuration (key to improving comfort)
Sunshade system (mandatory!):
External shading: The best effect. Blocking sunlight from the outside of the glass fundamentally prevents heat from entering. There are sunshades, canopy curtains, etc.
Internal shading: Covering indoors is aesthetically pleasing and convenient, but the heat has already entered the room and the effect is not as good as external shading. There are blackout curtains, blinds, etc.
Hollow glass with built-in louvers: The louvers are sealed in the middle of the glass, requiring no cleaning, but cannot be repaired if damaged.
Ventilation system (mandatory!):
Skylight: Very important! The hot air rises and is discharged through the skylight, forming convection and achieving excellent heat dissipation. The recommended proportion of sunroof is 10% -15% of the area.
Facade windows: Design as many openable window sashes as possible, such as casement windows, sliding windows, and hanging windows.
Electric exhaust fan: For large sunrooms, it can assist in ventilation.
Cooling system:
In addition to shading and ventilation, in the hot south, installing air conditioning or ceiling fans can be considered.
